Google/Yahoo search engines

Often, if I enter a subject in the Google search box, for some reason, upon clicking, only the first word from the subject line is transferred to Yahoo, and the complete subject title has to re-entered. A few minutes ago, I entered Song; followed by the title concerned in Google, but only the word 'Song;' appeared in the Yahoo search box.  Two questions spring to mind (1) Why does it have to go to Yahoo's S/B in the first place, and (2) why is only the first word from the Google S/B, subject line sent to Yahoo?  (OS here is W10)

What you describe isn't immediately making sense to me. If you type into a google search box you should get google search results. Yahoo has nothng to do with it.

What browser are you using?

I'm using the current version of Firefox, and the Yahoo search box is part of their Homepage from which i access my Yahoo emails, and, no, Mark, I don't have a Yahoo Toobar.

Jeffrey is right though - what you say isn't very clear.

How do you get to Google? Are you going to www.google.co.uk, or are you typing in the search box at the top of Firebox - usually the box to the right of the Address Bar (think that's what they call it). If the latter, that is configurable. There is a drop-down menu (hover over the magnifying glass symbol and note the appearance of a little "down" triangle - click that to see the menu). On the menu is an option called "Change Search Settings". From there, you can make sure Google is the default, and you might choose to remove the ones you know you'll never use.

Another way to get to those settings is to type or copy/paste this into the address bar: about:preferences#search

WHen you say "their homepage" do you mean FIrefox's default homepage or some kind of Yahoo homepage?

For my own computers I use google.co.uk as my home page and set the Firefox search box to Wikipedia. That works well for me.

Jeffrey, the Homepage to which I refer is at 'www.yahoo.co.uk'. To answer your question, Mark, the search box is at the to LH side of the screen, and, TBH, I'm not too concerned about the set-up behaving the way it does, but was curious as to why it does.

Ah - you're confusing the various boxes, I'm afraid

The Search Box is to the right of the Address Bar. Actually, now the Address Bar is called Awesome Bar because you can type search queries in here as well as web addresses:

I still type queries in the Search Bar, and web addresses in the Awesome Bar (silly name!). Mostly out of habit, but also because sometimes you get odd results, just as you're seeing. Here, you're typing what you think is a query, but Firefox matches your text with a previous URL that you visited, and takes you to that - which is where Yahoo comes into play. So instead, type your search queries in the Search Bar. Problem solved
