I'm afraid it's replacement cost versus income so far as most consumers are concerned, colour TV's are available at half the price they were in the late 60's and since then average household incomes have increased many fold, it's a no brainer so far as I see it.
The last business I owned was in the saw milling game, the golden rule was a third for the logs, a third for running the saw and kit and a third for me, anything less than the latter would have been a struggle.
The only hope in our sphere of interest is a niche market, that would need a fair bit of market research.
My R&TV hey days were in the 60's and 70's, I worked abroad for a while in that game over t'other side of the pond, what I found back then was there was always a product customers would spend money on to get the product repaired, that was mid range to high end reel to reel tape decks, that might have all changed now but it was the case then, blokes in particular got quite attached to them, I worked in Vancouver and reel to reel tape decks were always arriving for repair from up the Yukon and beyond.
Lawrence.
