Cathode volts is ok with auto bias, if no auto bias then no volts, a screen volts check should be done if the valve has a screen grid.

Yes! true Lawrence but I did put in a way around that for the stages that don't have auto bias for most of the 30's 40's radios. I do measure the screen volts but I will have already measured the resistor and re-capped the decoupler so its just cursory rather than being accurate and loading, or lack of it, wouldnt be at the fore front of my mind.

One of the things I like about the Avo...Nothing to do with measurement...The scale glass makes a handy receptacle for screws, nuts, washers etc removed from the radio when servicing

Yes, I plan to. It'll be a couple of weeks before it arrives, and a bit longer again to assemble it - I'll take my time and reverse-engineer key parts of the schematic as I go...

It's actually a DSO138 designed by JYE Tech. - see http://www.jyetech.com/Products/LcdScope/e138.php - they do quite a few small 'scopes - http://www.jyetech.com/Products/Oscilloscope.php

They are warning about people selling clones - the official distributor is on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/JYE-DSO-138-Open-S...1435018139

Further, the clones are an older vesion - the one you refer to is actually the previous one - the current is # 13803K or #13804K - the previous one was #13801K

Yes, I did check it out before buying - the BangGood ones appear to be genuine, but if not, I'll write it up as a service to potential customers. I found this comment on the JYE forum:

Bandgood is believe selling genuine DSO138 kits. It has sold many kits and we didn't get any complaint about it so far. We didn't put it on the recommended list because we are not its directly supplier.

The user guide on BangGood's site doesn't include the schematic, but earlier today I found that the download from JYE's website does.

Lots of people talking about it on forums and YouTube. It's a popular little kit, and from what I've seen, it's actually a lot more usable that you might expect. The newer version has a bit less noise - there is one resistor value change and a different software version. Not a big deal. As far as I can see, there is nothing on the BangGood page to indicate the version - the only clue is that the downloadable manual is Rev. 01, but the newest I've found from JYE is Rev. 04.

Still, we'll see what turns up - even if it's the older version, it's still a bargain

There are a couple of q&a entries - in one of those they state its the original one...

I only know  this as I was looking at these a few weeks ago - almost bought one but held back as I have simply too many unfinihed projects right now.

Currently learning how to veneer as have just made a pair of near field speakers...
