Somehow I managed to make a muck of bidding on the Formo Slow Motion drives

I just found this thread and its interesting as I collect old coils and have some similar ones.

I thought on these ones there was a primary, secondary and reaction winding and switching between medium and long meant you just switched coils?

That was my view at first, but as you can see there was clearly a lot of variation on how best to go about Switching, or even the best Circuit.
I've actually bought a couple more but haven't got round to Posting about them - very remiss, I'll get on with it.
We must compare Collections, although all mine will be in this Thread shortly, I hope.

I've got some unidentified plug-in coils with 6-pin bases, though I did see a pic of a set - TRF I think - that had this type of coil, which as I recall, were changed via the front panel.

Here's the coils from a Pilot Super Wasp (the first comms radio some say).  Someone before me (possibly Jeffrey Dixon Nuttal, now sadly gone) wound the LW ones which work quite well.  I rewound some as he had done others in fluorescent coloured solid wire which looked awful.  Note the Catalin handles now badly discoloured but no cracks and still functional.  The aged boxes were home made as the originals were from the wrong version and torn and tattered.

   

For these you open the Wasp cabinet top, pull off metal lids on two ali boxes, take out two coils and replace with two others.  DX ing back then in 1928 / 9 was a slow and tedious business.

They're labelled Aerial, 1st HF and 2nd HF.
