A transistorised one may be a lot easier - the Solartron, whilst lovely, is not a stabilised supply - its simply series regulated with no feedback and has no C- (grid) output.

It is also a *beast*, weighing in at a not inconsiderable 15kg.

The Heathkits are properly stabilised, have pretty much the same rating (though limited to 400V B+), have a C- outrput and are lot lot lighter taking up a fraction of the bench space - if you were considering a valve option, I'd clone one of those.

In practice for what I use it for, mainly hook up valve circuits, I don't find the lack of feedback and stability a problem. At the right price and if its near you I would still go for it. Size and weight don't matter in my case as I have it on a pull up to the bench test gear trolley. This was made from parts from IKEA's 'crash corner' and fitted with 4 of their cheap but good large casters.
