Could you explain the flag in more detail or post a rough drawing so I can get an idea.

Here is a quick drawing showing the flag and a side view if where I would expect it to go.
I was thinking of making a cardboard reed and glueing a bit of a tin lid onto it for testing.

Is the angle of the slot in the drawing inverted to the one in the photo?

The end facing the cone is the wide end.
The last photo in the first post with half a dozen or so photos shows it well enough.

I'm confused, the last photo in the first set of photos posted in this thread shows that the side of the pole piece that faces the cone has a narrow slot aperture.

In the last set of photos posted you can see the underneath of the same pole piece, it shows a wide slot aperture underneath, that's the side that faces away from the cone?

I have had another look at the photos.
It is six and seven in post 13. It does look more like the speaker side is the narrow end of the slot.

Yes, that's what I thought.

If there was a missing piece of steel/iron I wonder if it might have been trapeziod shaped so that the angle of it's sloping sides would be equal to the angle of the sloping sides of the slot, that would give a greater magnetic area to the whole reed as presented to the slotted pole piece, it would be in effect another pole piece, the service sheet refers to adjusting the pole pieces, that implying that there is more than one, I will try and do a drawing to show what I mean. The bottom end of the screwed rod would extend below the main pole piece and be screwed into the trapeziod shaped pole piece.

To avoid any descriptive confusion I've named the main reed as Pt. A and the possible missing bit as Pt. B in the drawing attached.

I think the arrangement shown would have the same properties as the more conventional 2 pole magnet system that would have a reed set equidistant in a gap between two magnetic poles.

Comments, ideas?

That is pretty close to what I thought your description was of.
Both shapes are equally likely to be true.
