The wire is a much better replica of the original rubber than anything normally available here. I like the wax capacitors. You know, aside from a couple of modern parts I can see in there, if you finished with a rattle can of "dust" you could fool a lot of people into thinking it was an unrestored original.

I'm pretty sure the Bulletin has featured American sets on the cover before, so why not this one?

The wire is silicon rubber covered over 7 or 14 strand, both are available here. I particularly like the subdued colours and its very easy strip. Having 'talked' to US restorers in the past it does not seem to be sold over there. The cotton coloured, from the likes of AES, is mostly too garish and a pain to strip.

Indeed - as anyone who has done anything even semi-serious on the RCA AR88 comms. receiver (amongst others) will be well aware.

Well, it has got finished !

Playing in the lounge as I type. It works very well, sensitive and selective. I have yet to sit and evaluate its SW capabilities.

From the earlier pictures you may notice that it has a new correct set of knobs. Very beautifully turned and brass bushed for me 'down under'.

   
   
   

Next time I use them I'm going to spray those metal clad resistors matt black, they are too in my face. I contemplated de-mounting them and doing the re-paint but it was a fiddly job and there are gold tube cans so its passable. They are once again needed to drop the high mains voltage into a generously wound mains transformer. It was getting too hot and the heaters were close to 3V !
