Thanks once again everyone for your interest and replies. You know I never get "bolshie" Big Al; I don't resort to swearing and jumping up and down being unpleasant when things are stacked against me; I tend to get inwardly very annoyed then I go calm and think about the problem. I've now got a plan of action which I do not wish to implement but if Virgin are still messing us around this weekend I'll let Virgin know who really is in the driving seat because I refuse to be treated in this manner especially as neither Bron nor I have done anything wrong to deserve this whilst being loyal customers for so long. Plan of action but as a last resort; buy new TV aerial and sufficient co-axial cable from Screwfix; top up my mobile phone in readiness and whilst I still can take other suppliers details. Take one pair of well insulated cutters and severe the Virgin cable on our property rendering it safe then deposit both virgin cable box and coiled cable at the end of our driveway for Virgin to collect at their discretion; erect new TV aerial to get Bron sorted with TV and I don't mind being without Broadband or phone for a while until the new supplier connects us up. We still don't have an appointment for Virgin to re-connect us so tomorrow I'll send two email reminders then on Friday I'll send three email reminders and if need be on Saturday I''ll send four email reminders; if these are ignored then Sunday sees the snip; end of Virgin Media problem once and for all. I've been fighting like mad to spend time on the Lorch restoration and to say I'm fully retired my life is just a joke with such as Virgin Media messing me around shattering my peace and concentration; I stand so much but once I focus on a problem I'll come up with a working solution. I'm not foolhardy enough to be stupid and start leaving live cable around but if Virgin are happy to cut our phone line then mess us about I'm equally happy to cut their umbilical cord as well. The cable will be cut on our freehold property so under the circumstances I don't need any permission. If Virgin want to jerk me around they are taking on the right guy? Now for something equally as positive; I'll update the Lorch story; I feel a lot more cheerful. I'm not going to change the way I am because I'm happy with myself; being polite works for me and life should not be about falling out? Kind regards, Col.

You need to satisfy yourself as to who owns what installation wise Col before cutting stuff, the cable from the utility pole to our phone outlet belongs to BT including any termination or junction boxes, from then on it's all ours.
I think shorting out stuff that may be liable to interfere with their service or cause them problems might be an offence. You don't have to get bolshie with them, short, to the point and reasonably sharp with a commanding voice and don't take no for an answer. Lawrence.

Thanks for the sound advice Lawrence; tit for tat; Virgin cut our phone line without warning and if they are being silly enough to ignore email after email let them take me to court; I'll ensure plenty of bad publicity for them after all I'll only be doing to them as they do unto me? I'm not in any way recommending anyone else take such action because I realize this is an open forum for the world to see but I remember the old story story about David and Goliath; the utility companies keep dragging the cable out of the road without warning so at least mine will be much neater and definitely safer? Hopefully common sense will prevail and Virgin will do the right thing towards Bron and me? Just to be very fair; I could of course simply install the new aerial and get a new supplier to hook up broadband and phone then inform Virgin to collect their equipment otherwise I'll charge rent or dispose of it myself? Tit For tat won't work Col, if you do any damage, you signed a contract including the fact that you agreed to comply with their terms and conditions, that's the law on their side, if they take you to court and you loose and then generally attempt to let the public know what you think, they will just think there goes another criminal spouting off.

Thanks Lawrence; I believe a contract usually works both ways and Virgin Media broke the contract not us. Bron and I would be hard pressed now to find the original contract signed with NTL not Virgin Media because we think it was about 24 years ago? I would have created a lot of noise before it got to court not after then the public could see what was happening up front? Colin you are such a gem; I was just about to compose an email to the CEO of Virgin Media which you have just kindly sent me when suddenly I finally received an email from Virgin Media offering an apology saying their engineer will be with us this Friday evening which hopefully saves a lot of friction and silliness? The company will not have broken the contract unless someone can prove that they have, it's the bit's they don't write in the contract that catch the ordinary person out.....
Anyways I hope it all gets resolved ok Lawrence.

Just tell them that you will order another line from an alternative provider if it is not fixed by Monday morning.
If is is not fixed act on it. PM one of us your details for the referral form and if it is Plusnet they share the referral bonus between the new customer and the person that made the referral. We are lucky to get 2Mb with the street lash-up we have out side. |
