Santa brought me one of these jobbies:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221114030171
The spec is at the link.
Referred to as a ‘Digital Insulation Tester ‘Megger’ MegOhm Meter, which is a bit naughty given that ‘Megger’ is a company name – a company that is very much alive and kicking too (http://www.megger.com/uk/). As with ‘Hoover’ ‘Thermos’ AVO and so on, I guess that the term ‘Megger’ has become a generic term for an insulation tester. Not a lot to say about it really. It seems well made, has good quality test leads and well insulated clips, comes with a sparse instruction book, but then the controls are self explanatory. I doubt I’ll use it much because I invariably change paper caps on sight, but out of curiosity, I checked a few at 500V that I’d yanked out of sets. They were hundreds of Megohms, so not every cap is leaky at its working voltage. Useful to know in cases where ‘conservation’ rather than ‘restoration’ is the aim.
Cheap enough at the price, and from a UK seller too – not on a slow boat from China.
