If they use Royal Mail it's likely to be in the $10 - $15 range, assuming you're in no rush.
They may have a cheaper option.
I hate Sites that make you get right to the end of Checkout before telling you

Yes, and giving paypal access to my bank account isn't likely to happen. Let's see, can I remember the old Goon Show line from Bloodnok, "Say after me: 'open my wallet and help yourself'."

Oh well, the book will eventually be orderable from a supplier who takes Mastercard directly. If I have a problem with them, I can talk to the bank manager down the street. I just paid another 3 years of BVWS membership by Mastercard.

You only enter your debit or credit card details to make the purchase. Entering bank details isn't necessary unless you wish to pay direct from your bank account.

Using PayPal is as simple and secure as any other online card payment method.

I pay via paypal direct from my bank account.

I've had two scares - one an (unsuccessful) attempt by fraudsters to make thousands of pounds from purchases on my debit card, which the bank fraud detection facilities picked up. On that occasion, the bank identification procedures were so strict that I failed the fist attempt to prove that I was the genuine account holder, and I was very impressed that the system was so sophisticated that it was able to detect that three transactions didn't follow my normal pattern of spending - which from my perspective is haphazard and ranges from buying fuel for my car, meals in restaurants, B&B and hotels, paying toll road fees in France, car hire, amazon, and all sorts of sundry transactions.

The second scare was when I received a message from paypal that there had been some 'unusual activity' on my account, and for the time being, I could receive money, but not make any payments and that I should contact paypal immediately. The 'unusual activity' turned out to be me buying a sheet of Tufnol worth about five pounds on internet when on holiday in Normandy. Ordinarily, I only use paypal from home, or other UK locations, and paypal's fraud detection system didn't like that a transaction had been made from France.

I've never given a second thought to notifying my bank when I go abroad - I've used my credit card in France, Holland, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Belgium, Poland, but never for any large purchases - only such things as accommodation, meals, car hire, toll road fees, car fuel etc. Never crossed my mind that it could be a bit tricky to try to pay at an unmanned toll booth in France, with a queue of traffic tailgating me, only to have the machine spit out the card!

The credit card transactions I most worry about are those over the telephone. You give them your name, address, expiry date on the card, the card number, the three digit security number on the back. Seems to me that they've got all the details they need to scam your card. (Your PIN number is only used for transactions when you are present at the pint of sale). When you do transactions via paypal or trusted website with the lock symbol, at least the data is encrypted.

It doesn't keep me awake at night - the benefits have to be weighed against the risks, as in all things in life. A life lived in fear is no life at all.

In the end, time cures every problem!

I was once woken in the early hours when I was in the USA by NatWest asking who was using my Card over there. Like David I'd never thought to tell them I was going.

But I would be giving them to paypal in the meantime. They think they're a bank but they aren't regulated like one. I know a collector who lost a great deal of money by a paypal scam. He sent a container of antiques to Hong Kong, got paid by paypal, but a few months later the recipient claimed he never received the container and paypal took the money back without any notice. The same thing happened to others, so it was a known scam, but paypal refused to investigate, and what are you going to do about it?

As to the HK transaction, I'm surprised that for such a high value deal to another hemisphere, that the deal didn't include the container being signed for by the recipient, with proper identification.

If I sell something on e-bay, which I've only done about a dozen times, I never send stuff overseas - only to UK buyers, and send stuff tracked and signed for unless it's a low value item - say ten pounds or so. If anyone who buys anything from me for such a low price, and dishonestly claims to have not received it, then the way I see it, is that the value he places on his own honour at no more than a tenner. He can keep the money - my honour is intact. It might sound a quaint and old fashioned view, but then I guess I'm a quaint old fashioned guy!

At first glance it looks to be a well-researched book, but as has already been said, it's inexplicable that the radio on the cover is a Philips. Huh? (I suspect that it will be a small print run and will soon be out of print).

It puts into perspective what a large outfit Ekco grew to at its zenith. By early 1958 they'd produce a million TVs, and were producing 5,000 a week. How times change - not only did Ekco long since cease producing TVs, Sony - in the 'Land of the Rising Sun' - is out of TV production too.
