Hi,

Is the 5p plastic bag charge supposed to save the planet?

Do away with plastic bags completely and return to the good old fashioned brown paper carrier bags which so many of us my age liked even if they did scatter their contents all over the ground if the bottom of the bag was allowed to become wet.

Good idea Al; I'm sure a thread discussing all the bad news thrust upon us by the media these days should generate some interest and hopefully lots of replies. I'll start one off because I'm fed up of seeing and hearing of nothing but doom and gloom these days.

It's just another form of tax, those that keep littering our country and polluting the seas with them will still litter and pollute, pork cannot be educated.
I suspect that many behind this move would like to see the back of supermarket plastic bags permanently, which is all well and good but the fact remains that many folks use/recycle these bags for other uses, our family included.
If their use by the supermarkets was to be phased out then we would probably buy plastic bags to replace the ones that we would have gotten from the supermarket which to my way of thinking isn't very "green".
Bottom line is we are going to be charged 5p (compulsory) from sometime in 2015, it's just another tax.

Here (Spain) there is no TV license fee and supermarket bags are 2cents. As for a TV channel you could watch Italian TV ( No swearing), C5 if you can put up with Berlusconi's face every 15 mins, They have lots of nice dolly birds on TV with nice long legs, nice superior protuberances and nice skimpy costumes, Nice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Supermarket bags are about 9p in Italy and the Mafia is pretty good too.............
so the rest is not so Nice especially the News......Mafia/Camorra daily hit parade, Wife murders and corruption. But C5 is Nnnnnnnniiiiiiiiiccccccceee................
