3 x Bush + 1 x Sony radios, 2 x Telequipment scopes

Seen at my local auction tonight..... Lot 415 - three similar Bush radios, MB60, TR82 and TR82C. First set was valve, the other two were transistor.
Were unsold at £5 so probably went to the tip. Sorry.... can't rescue any more as I don't have the space and I don't like the style of these Bush sets anyway .

However, got Lot 445 - a Sony ICF-7601 worldband (analogue) radio also for £5. It's immaculate and fully working.

There were also a pair of Telequipment (D75 and DM63 I think) oscilloscopes, but these were high numbered Lots and I didn't stay because I needed to get home and walk the dogs.

That is surprising. Even battered TR82s make about fifteen quid in my local auctions.

Like you, they aren't to my taste so won't be weeping over their demise.

The MB60 is the valved forerunner of the TR82, and quite sought after.

A local auction is the wrong place for such sets as the audience is so limited - especially if no catalogue is issued.

The TR82 was an interesting set in that it bucked the trend of ever smaller pocket sized transistor sets with ever smaller speakers. It has a large speaker, a tone control to match the desire at the time for less 'tinny' sound with which transistor radios had become associated, and was built with ease of servicing in mind. Not really so much a 'portable' radio as 'transportable' - capable of being taken from room to room. It deservedly had a long production run and there were many variations.

In good condition and working order at places such as the NVCF, they typically fetch £30+

Chief suspect with a dead one tends to be the detector diode, hiding away in and IF can!

I spoke to one or two of the local traders who get their stock from this auction and the other two in the area. They said they had no interest in radio equipment because there was no demand at boot sales.

The only (limited) interest seems to be vintage Hi-Fi but the punters don't want to pay much even on those items. One guy said he regularly dumped valve radios when he was short of space in his van. He said he will pull the valves for me in future. Same with test equipment, 'scopes etc. - no interest at all and he didn't know why folk didn't put it straight in the bin rather than the auction.

These guys have been trading for years..... aged 65-70 and have made a lot of money too, so they should know where the local interest lies.
