Black Magic paint.

Hi,

At last I've got around to using this black Magic paint. I've given the kitchen waste pipes; garden handrails and some cladding to the front of the bungalow a coat and it went on extremely easy. Brush marks mostly disappear but close inspection shows they are there although they don't stand out because the paint has a Matt finish.

This paint covers very well as seen in the pictures below; I didn't expect one coat to convert white into black but in fact it has done well although I'll add a second coat in the next few days. The cladding painted with Sikkens micro-porous was painted last about four years ago and where it had started to peel it looked poor as the exposed timber really stood out. One coat of Black Magic has blended the patches in nicely but I'll add a second coat as using this paint is so quick. I'm considering painting the garage doors with this Black Magic because the black gloss I used shows every blemish.

The guy demonstrating this Black Magic paint on Ideal World shopping channel grasped a large plastic bottle painted with Black Magic and screwed the bottle up showing the paint didn't let go and he had used this same bottle many times.

So far I'm happy but living here on the valley side will test it and I'll report back if there is any change.

Washing the brush clean in cold water took about a minute.

Hi, Mr chief sceptic here, I'm not convinced of some of these consumer miracle paints for outdoor use, I remain to be convinced.

Sorry Joe I did try to keep the rain over our bungalow; at least it had he decency to let me wash the brush out before it started; it had been dry all day up till then but I do have my own personal black cloud keeping me company.

Thanks Gary; only black as far as I know hence the name Black Magic. Perhaps some day other colours will be introduced?

I won't even try to convince you Lawrence about the properties of this Black Magic paint because like you I trust things that have stood the test of time and been proved to be good. I'm unable to comment about the longevity of this paint having only just started to use it.

One thing I am sure of is that if plastic guttering/pipes are painted with standard undercoat and gloss eventually the paint will detach; I did paint our plastic items about four years ago with Leyland paint and so far it is holding up but I'm sure if Leyland paint was painted onto a plastic bottle then the bottle was screwed up it would fail instantly; if ever you get the chance to watch this Black Magic paint being demonstrated on the Ideal World shopping channel it is most impressive.

Plastic garden planters can very quickly be turned into highly expensive cast iron planters with a coat of this paint as can gutters and drainpipes etc. Generally reviews are good but with a few disappointments thrown in as seen here;

The first coat covered well but I think a second coat will give the result I'm looking for.

The first paint manufacturer that brings out a paint which can be applied a dries under water will get my vote then perhaps my cloud will take a hike?

I watched the video, I wonder if that was just a black plastic bottle he scrunched up, me sceptic...never...
Got black plastic guttering and down pipes etc so no painting them for me, have a short run of white plastic waste pipe outside but I will replace that with black....I hate painting (common knowledge)
Good luck with the black magic, the manufactures (Flag paints) are out of stock at the moment? I will stick with Peter Green and Santana.

I did the same as Laerence and bought black pipes. Even if they get scratched it does not show once it has weathered a bit.

Thanks Lawrence. Doesn't black plastic turn grey with age and weathering? Our brown guttering and pipes have turned grey where fully exposed to the front of the bungalow.

One thing I should have mentioned yesterday was my working conditions. I used UPOL pads to rub down the waste pipes and handrails but as the Sikkens was peeling in places on the cladding to the front of the bungalow I thought I would cut some pieces of abrasive paper whilst in the garage to save me running around too much just in case they were needed.

As I knelt down on the deck I placed the abrasive paper in a neat pile on the deck and was about to start rubbing the cladding with a UPOL pad when the paper disappeared like confetti into our side garden. Gathering up the paper I placed an engineering brick on top of the stack. It was blowing a gale up the valley and as usual in mid summer I was wrapped up well wearing a coat.

When I had finished painting it then rained; not a lot but enough to wind up the big key in my back; it never ever fails because every time I paint outside down comes the rain; it had been dry all day up to this point.

I've got three compressors and a range of spray guns; perhaps I should sell the lot then the sun might come out and stay out also if I bought a kite then I wouldn't inflict gale force winds onto my neighbours?

Today's weather forecast is poor so all is normal.

Our house - one a small private estate of 40 houses - is 22 years old and has black Marley gutterring and downpipes. I've since painted and repainted the gutters and downpipes twice using 'International' primer and gloss black gutter paint, which has a ten year guarantee. Why paint black guttering black, some might ask? Because after a few years, the black is leached out by UV and the guttering often turns grey. The few on the estate who haven't painted their gutters have an unsightly mix of fittings which have stayed black for some reason (different pigment), and gutters and downspouts which have turned grey. Being black of course, not only are they affected by UV, they get extremely hot in bright sunlight (not that this rare phenomenon would trouble Colin's gutters!), and that probably doesn't help.

Reading the reviews of the Black Magic paint at the link, by far the most are highly favourable, but are mostly by people who have just applied the paint. The unfavourable reviews concern its alleged lack of long term durabilty, and in one case, poor adhesion, including to new metal body sills on a car. I'm not sure that I'd paint a wrought iron fence or cast iron garden chairs and tables with satin paint as some reviewers have done, as to my mind satin it looks like gloss paint that has lost its gloss and needs re-painting, but that's just my view - it's all down to personal preference - clearly others prefer satin to gloss. In that regard, having recently bought a new car, when browsing and deciding what to buy, I've been astounded at what - to me - are the most ghastly colours of some new cars, so there's no accounting for taste. The makers wouldn't supply such colours unless they'd carefully researched them.

If the stuff I have here goes grey after so many years then I will replace it, less hassle than paint.
Web reviews from suppliers sites for miracle cures.....I tend to be wary.
