Help - Explorer 9 has change the appearance of the screen.

Until recently, my desktop computer has worked tickety boo, but for some reason, whereas before when say the forum front page is displayed, so was the top toolbar(?) which displayed the star for 'my favorites' and at the bottom, the taskbar(?) which displayed the start menu and other progs pinned to the bottom bar such as my e-mail and other short-cuts.

Now, the forum front page (or any other page for that matter) occupies the whole screen. If I hover my mouse at the very top of the screen the top bar re-appears - without it I cant close the forum and come out of it. But until I close down IE, I can no longer see the bottom bar.

As far as I know, I haven't done anything to bring about this change.

It's only when in Explorer that this happens - if I open any other prog, the bottom bar and start menu remain visible). I know that some may say 'Easy - change your browser to Google Chrome' or whatever, but I really don't want to change my broswer to anything else - I'm used to IE, and how I access 'my favorites'. (Which is spelt is US English - not UK).

I also mentioned recently that on my desktop PC whereas all I used to have to do to get into the forum was simply open it and it said 'Hi Yokie, welcome back', but now, it treats me as a guest and invites me to register or sign in. As soon as I type 'Y' to sign in it offers 'Yorkie' and if I click on that, my password appears in the password block and I can get in, so it hasn't completely lost the plot, but I seem to have done! It doesn't matter how much I click on 'Remember me' it makes no difference. It's worked fine ever since I joined the forum until this last week or two, (it still does on my laptop and i-pad, which use Safari).

Any thoughts anyone?

Hi David try pressing F11 when it is in full screen, it should take you back to normal.

This applies to all browsers.

When an update installs the default settings will be where they were set at the time the save button was pressed for the last time before the update was sent out.
From the pull down menus select each setting you want to change such as "show task bar" and so on and change the status of the check box for each of these. Look for a save button and press it if it is there before closing the screen and restarting the browser.

I've hit F11 (about the only key I hadn't pressed!) and its back to normal.

Still asks me for my username and password when I try to get back into the forum, but I gues I'll have to live with that - life's just too short and time too pressing

The request for username and password is because during the update it didn't bring saved passwords across (supposedly for security reasons). You now need to go into the settings and tell it to save passwords. A typical Microsoft undocumented feature!

Thanks for that Colin - I've done as you said and it's now behaving itself - quite the most exciting thing that's happened to me today!
