Flood damaged Antara

There is a flood damaged Antara going very cheaply here which I may be interested in, I understand that the water reached the window level but did NOT ingress. There is limited electrical functionality but It would appear that the ECU is stuffed.
It's on sale for 25% of the normal price. Has anyone experience along these lines.

Normally, under EU laws, a car that has been involved in any kind of flood is deemed fit for scrap or spares.

It may well be fine but how long was it under water and was it fresh or salt? Easy to see if it did ingress and I would be very dubious about buying it if it did.

My Ford Escort van was written off at an MOT station and the cheeky bu**er said "Looks like its been underwater, take it to the scrap heap". Anyway a repairer friend welded on new inner and outer sills and I painted everything underneath it with Waxoyl. This was just to make it look tidy and cared for at the following MOT.

It passed and has done so for the last 3 since.

I was told that water (Fresh) reached the window level, the car was in a garage, that was the highest it reached, the water took several days to subside. I haven't been to see it yet but I am assured that there was no water whatever inside the vehicle, It should be very obvious to see and smell too!! I reckon on taking some jump leads (Not to try starting) and a 3ft piece of transparent plastic tube to look at the bottom of the tank. Also a strong friend to push it along in gear.
Apart from checking for water in oil and whatever level of functionality remains, do any other checks come to mind?
The vehicle value was reimbursed by the community insurance not by the car insurance policy.

Make sure you check for water in oil properly, if it has done no miles since flooding, the water if present might not have emulsified. I do not know much about modern motors but most breathers and intakes are not designed to be flooded by a deep flood, my landrover breathers come out high up, I keep the bell housing leak plug in all the time except for a quick removal to drain any oil that might have got through the rear crank seal, then there is corrossion in the contacts and electronics, probably ok at first but once everything gets well oxidized it might be a different story. Things always happen to cars when you don't want them to.
You might be lucky, I wouldn't want to touch it unless they gave me a five year warranty.

I wouldn't touch, it's scrap value only, what with the oil, there's the damage to wheel bearings, brake pads, disks, water up the exhaust into the cat and lower engine end. The electrics have been to an extent submerged and I don't believe the b*****ks about no water in the passenger cabin because water will creep in via the pedals, gear change and handbrake line as well as any aircon breathers at the rear.

Bottom line, it's a pup, fit for scrap only, save your cash and find something else.

I did not know what an Antara was, just looked at a picture on the web, walk away unless you can get a decent warranty or your money back plus a five grand hassle fee, assuming the seller is solvent. I think walk away would be the easiest. It's a horrible looking thing, get a half decent SH landrover a bag of pop rivets and a sheet of aluminium, they will go on forever if you want them to.

That is not a real land rover and would get stuck on wet grass.
I bought a BMW when I lived in town 8 years ago as an ex demo.
It is not up to the terrain now and is most likely to be replaced with a modest van due to potholed roads and the lack of need for off road mileage.
I watched TV film a few years of Range Rovers being dragged from a grass car park following a very wet British Grand Prix and would vote for a real Land Rover or van depending on the amount of off road it is going to do.
They were dragging them off with a real farm tractor

I forgot,..... as for the Land Rovers, I pulled out at least a dozen from sand and mud back in the 80s with a convertible straight 6, 4.5 litre short wheelbase Land Cruiser.
The LRs had proper sand tyres too whereas the Toyota had what appeared to be crossplys.
