I've just had a spot of luck, thanks to Alan. He drew my attention to a TV on Ebay, just up the road from me in Blackburn.
It had not been used since 405 went off the air in 1985, but had been kept indoors ever since - in a dry heated room to boot.
Just tried it out now. Came straight up and with a spot of twidding, I only came across 2 faults. A bit of shading, probably due to a little misalignment of the tube neck assembly and a capacitor or two in the frame timebase.
Apart from that, the picture and sound are stable. A good find!
