BBC iPlayer Problem

Just tried the Iplayer site, no problem here, no boxes, no prompts, no questions, just clicked on the program to watch and everything was fine.

No problem when clicking on the program to watch it, but try downloading it as a .wmv file to playback on your PC using WMP and I think it will fail. As I said, no proboem palying it directly, but then you can't watch it next month or later as it expires.

Already been through this, but the PC is not the problem as it also occurs on other machines running XP/Vista/Win7. Defintely not PC related.

Also, the error message indicates that an internet page is not found rather than a PC error. It looks most likely that the BBC have disabled the ability to download and play files in any way other than directly through the iPlayer application.

Shame really as I was collecting the 'Timeshift' series and I found the 'techy' one about computers to be very interesting.

Get i-Player downloads as .MP4 files which I usually play with Media Player Classic. WMP can't handle that file type as it stands and, as I don't like the Vista version of it, I've never really played about with it.

As a test I downloaded a short children's programme with the BBC's own i-Player and have the same problem as you:-

Joe, that's the exact problem.
Nothing relating to the PC so don't waste an afternoon trying like I did.
It's got to be 'them' stopping you from keeping the program.

OK, so how do you download th files in MP4 format, please?
BBC iPlayer only supports the .WMV file type.

Use Get i-Player as I mentioned in Post Two.

I haven't used the BBC i-Player since I discovered it. The only problem is that it was originally written for Linux so is about as user-friendly as a barbed-wire bog-roll but great if you can work out ho to use it.

It appears to have been fixed. I've just tried that kids' programme again and WMP got the rights and played it.

Yes, fixed as you say (but took around 10 days ??)
Good old BBC.... wasted around 5-6 hours trying to fix a problem that wasn't anything to do with the 'customer'.
