Hi All,
I thought it was about time I posted this in the restoration section now that I have hopefully (fingers crossed) rewired the set.
I promised a good friend that I would restore a valved radio for him to listen to and I selected my second ivory VHF90. As you know from my many posts this set was beset with problems which have occurred from severe over heating and a lash up repair at some point in the past.
It has been recapped with all the waxies and hideous brown Hunts caps removed. Good practice recommends removing one cap at time and testing. I was not able to do this as each time a touched a lead in the set, the insulation fell off from the heat that it must have sustained. Much of this wiring has been replaced including the replacement (twice!!) of that pesky 500k log switch with a 470k replacement (yes, this time the terminals have stayed in place).
The power resistors have been replaced, and 'that' cap replaced with a suitable suppression cap.
The next stage is to recheck all of the wiring etc to see for any obvious faults or shorts, insert the valves and slowly bring it up to power.........more to follow.
