Quite: I think it was about two years ago when a complete Collins Amateur Radio station appeared on e-bay. Everything was there - and I do mean everything, including the proprietary furniture, cabinetry - the whole works! Needless to say it had a substantial 'starting price', but within two hours (approx.) it was suddenly 'no longer for sale'. I think we can all guess what happened there.

Yes I remember that one if it was the one all in a floor standing cabinet? Pretty rare over hear I would have thought.
The Hammarlunds are good, always wanted an SP600, only one I have is an HQ150, my heap is also in the gallery. I look at Ebay Stateside and just wish.

My PCR2 has arrived.

   

After buying it the seller asked if I wanted a couple of other items which hadn't sold gratis. These were a PCR3TPL and a TeleVet.

           

I said yes as the former would be handy for spare and the latter would at least be interesting.

I haven't done anything with them yet as they didn't get here 'til four o'clock.

I don't think that either the silver finish on the PCR2 or the pink on its PSU are original so I'll have no qualms about painting these. The front panels look as though there's nothing wrong that a good clean won't sort out.

Proper job Joe, don't see many TPL's these days, the Televet will be good for TV's, if the CRT is ok then it should restore ok. If it was a Radivet I would be really upset!

The TPL was described as "A bit ropey" which seems fair comment! The tuning handle does what we doctors call sod all but the gang is very stiff so that should be fixable.

The odd thing is it seeming to have two original-looking OPTs. It's obviously been modded so I need to investigate properly.

It's putting the cart before the horse somewhat but how common are cases?

What are the gas mantle things on the valves for?

The Wise Man of Burton has bagsied the TeleVet.

Back you lot, I got there first
Radivets don't turn up often but sell for good prices. The last Televet I saw went for £10.
They're to keep the valves in the sockets when you bang it about.
It looks as though it's been in a damp shed for a long time, but it should be OK with TLC.

Maybe one of those black tar jobies is a choke, they look Pye(ish)

I've now had a look at both sets and came to that conclusion as one of them hasn't got enough terminals to be a transformer.

The PCR3 must have been 'got at' a good while ago as there are loads of Metalmites and those black and red Plessey electrolytics in it. There's also a bracket under the chassis with two pots on so working out what's what will take a while, especially as I don't have a layout diagram.

The PCR2 looks untouched within. A quick poke with the continuity tester shows all the caps are shot, including the reservoir and smoother. It doesn't look difficult to sort out though. Famous last words...

They should certainly keep me amused for a while.
