well tried with the sets own speaker plenty of volume now.
have given the cabinet a polish .
i am quite pleased with the results but will think twice about taking on anothr set that some one has modified.
i cant work out the serries of events that led to the work that was done.
i think that the output valve grid coupling cap whent leaky ,the high current burnt out the primary of the output transformer witch was changed for the rs one saddly wired wrongly .so haveing a set that now worked with bad distortion decided to change the el41 but only had an el84 .so whent to the trouble of fitting a b9a valve base. found it was still distorted and low out put so gave up.
i cant explain why he/she did not check the wax caps and why was the smothing ressistor oc.

That looks very good.
I actually prefer the 75s which are a bit smaller but have two of the controls on the sides. However, it's much the same circuit.
Are you going to leave the EL84?

hi alan i also have a p75 and think its a good set.
for the time being i am going to leave the el84 until i get a nos valve holder and a better output tx.
this job was interesting as its the first time in years that i have had to draw out the circuit from the physical lay out ,brings back memorys of when i started in the trade.
as an aside the shop where i got this set has another 4sets that all came from the same man. so i may get another (not pye)
a lot of jobs i do i dont bother posting be cause changed the output dc blocking cap now works could become boring.

Hi Rob, the one on the left is exactly what I'm looking for to finish off the chassis rebuild for the Radialva Groom. I've found lots of octal sockets online but none exactly like that one. I'd be willing to purchase for any reasonable amount - or replace with one of the ones I've ordered up when it arrives. When my set was modified in the past the person removed the socket and put a silicon diode underneath (hole to the top left in the photo)
