quick question.. does this hum change with signal wires unplugged? how about with them plugged in.. Sometimes these amplifiers are grounded (why?.. computers are always grounded.. laptops generally float) and earth loops are common.

Not sure as atm there no hum and Theres 4 cables i wired in =mains .1 mini din type plug.1to the ither spaeker and the other to the pc. Not wirefree.

So, I had a lucky guess

Looking at those photos, I'm surprised Philips put their name to such a thing.

Time to get slightly more scientific about it - we need to eliminate the possibility of an earth loop, and we need to determine the exact conditions that cause the hum, and it would be nice to know if it's mechanical or electrical. I'll assume that as you want to fix it, you're willing to learn a bit more about how it works. Audio is pretty straightforward really...

Ultimately, it should be easy enough to fix - either stop that transformer rattling, or look for poorly capacitors.

The front plastic cover was pushed into holes in the box.
I can now confirm that the inside does look like your pic.
now where do i start?The tranformer is fixed to a block and the to the box.If this is the cause i can unscrew it and deaden the vibrations .But what material should i use.or could the problem be with the borad?

hi david you could try unscrewing it from the cabinet cut some bits of rubber say old inertube place behind the transformer and screw the lot back together. if there is enought wire even better would be to mount the trasformer outside of the cabinet

It is the transformer as it stop when i moved it. Ive got some rubber sheet somewhere.Also what is the round cardborad tube supposed to do
