Dug this out the loft the other day, I purchased it at at last years NVCF then forgot about it.
date of manufacture is 1955, it made it's début at the Earls court radio show in demonstration room D 22, and was priced at 28gns, there is no mention of purchase tax though.
One reason I wanted to get this set going was because it would be the only set in my collection that has FOUR wavebands, (LW, MW, SW, FM, and gram position), so set about it.
Not many problems with this one, mains smoothing caps looked OK, but a few nasty looking waxies, and several Hun'ts Mouldseals that were showing signs of distress, so after a few capacitor changes, powered the set up. The waveband and tone switchs were quite noisy, so dissembled again, and cleaned the lot, including the wave switch for good measure.
This time the noisy pots were cured, but nothing on FM but hiss, a replacement ECC85 soon cured this.
It sounds really nice, has a three position tone switch, in the middle position, it has plenty of base and treble, thanks to it's large Celestion speaker.
I have now to source a nice EM80, and start work on the cabinet, I have not yet decided what approach I will take with it, but will post a few pictures when it is finished.
I believe this set was one of the last Pam models before Pye purchased the company outright.
