I-177B Valve tester

Hi, all just bought this I-177B Valve tester, 110volt, made i am led to believe by Simpson, Triplett and others, here is a You Tube film of the same type, supposed to be a darn good tester. It is a wartime piece of equipment, its a dynamic tester rether than an emission tester...Regards....Alan.

Hello Alan, they are a good tester, I have one also (See Gallery) very well made, is yours tropicalized? Do you have any adaptors for it?

Hi Lawrence no adaptors, its tropicalised as were quite a few, i undersstand they were for use in the WW2 theatre. Dont fancy checking valves and getting shot at or bombed. I just looked at the tester owned by Lawrence, its a nice piece of kit, i would think it is not too hard to make up adaptors for this unit...regards.....Alan.

Hello Alan, yes, making up adaptors should not be a problem, the one in the Gallery that I own looks better than it is, it has been well used but nothing is broken and when I checked it out everything was within spec. the mercury vapour rectifier although working looks a bit hammered internally.

Hi Alan, I have one of these as well and the are good units (don't forget to run on 110V!!!).
The handbook that comes with the unit lists the setting up and also contains details of a multi-base adaptor, I built one many years ago and it has been useful.

Hi Ed, its a lovely compact tester, nice build too. I have a 110 volt transformer for this unit as you say its 110 volt, i also agree the adaptor should present no problems. Thanks for your reply ....regards....Alan.
