I pity the chap tasked with lotting up this collection for sale, when the time inevitably arises. Actually I don't quite know what to think about it: an amazing collection... but to what end? Simply the collecting? Or is there a point here that I've missed? It must appear extreme to any outsider (it certainly does to me). I would begin to question the mental state of anyone collecting anything - radio or not - to such a degree! I guess he's happy with his mass of transceivers, though. Perhaps that's all that matters in the final analysis.

Now I do not intend to insult that gentleman, but surely what we see there is a case of serious addiction, no? And that in turn makes me wonder about all the other things in his life that are being neglected, since that is what serious addiction produces. In the photos. he is smiling and looks happy . . . but, somehow, I wonder . . .

The thing that always impresses me - I've seen it before - is how tidy and well ordered it is.
As Al says, he seems to be enjoying it, so good luck to him.

A couple of years ago I bought a Pye 65A from Oldtimer74 - Pat. His house and outbuildings were stuffed with vintage radio gear, plus cars and motorbikes. Shortly after that he died suddenly. I've often wondered what happened to it all.

He obviously has a passion, but it's a fine line between a hobby and an obsession.

I'm not a doctor, but I think that the motivation that resulted in the collection can be summed up in a TLA: 'OCD'. A less polite TLA would be WTF?

He must have done very well out of cherry farming!

I don't think he's ill in any way. Why do people put others in boxes with phrases like OCD? With the state of the banking sector, he may be very wise putting money into other things and why not something that interests him?

The tidiness does worry me, but this is due to me being very untidy.

Indeed, to most people outside the hobby, some of our collections would seem obsessive, as most members of my family
cannot understand why I collect and hoard old vintage gear, they just don't get the point, and also they cannot understand why I
will not sell any of my collection, they seem to think it should be "one in, one out"

I think that is excellent. He has a very well-ordered collection, well laid out and displayed - plus a working station or two - not a pile of dust and gradual decay that some "collectors" manage to accumulate.
I only have a small fraction of the volume of stuff he does, but an even smaller fraction of the order he has achieved with it. Perhaps he'll leave the collection to the ARRL or something - they could probably afford to house a fair chunk of it.
