While having a roam around on 'tinternet, I've just come across a material I haven't heard of before known as 'Sugru' which come in small sealed packs and has the consistency of Plasticine. It's mouldable, cures overnight to a flexible silicone rubber, has very good adhesion (watch the short video!), withstands high and low temperatures, and is waterproof. Some examples of how it can be used are shown on the website. Might be good for making moulds for reporduction knobs, though there are other materials specifically for that purpose.
Hope it's of interest: http://sugru.com/about
