Dry the cone out thoroughly, when you have cleaned the surfaces from rust on the magnet and spider, nip the holding bolts slightly then get a toffee hammer to realign it, not easy but it can be done...........I know I did it!

You know when it is right by tapping the cone gently, it sounds different to when it is rubbing.

Hi Mark, the problem is not that the cone is rubbing, in fact it is rust free and totally clean, the problem being that as the cone seems totally flat, and not concave, the coil does not reach the magnet to sit in it.

Well a little more done this morning, the exponential cone speaker is faulty in both sets, in the picture, the left one is dead,
the right one had gone brittle and split, right round the diaphragm at the edge on the darker part, so have PVA glued it, it does not seem to be rubbing, will find out later when it has dried.

   

Also made a start on the cabinet, just managed to strip it of all it's old varnish before the rain started, then a quick wipe over with white spirit to deactivate the stripper, will start on the preparation and sanding this afternoon when it has dried off.

Well, been a busy little bunny today, after sanding the cabinet down, first with sandpaper, moving down to the final last sand with fine steel wool, gave it a wipe with white spirits to remove any last residue of dust and grease.
next job was to mask off the cabinet, and spray back in the gold banding round both sides, the left it for a while to settle, getting on with rubbing down the brass trims in the meantime.

last job today was to touch in a couple of blemishes with wood dye, and then treat the cabinet to two coats so far of Rustins scratch remover and polish,

I am now going to let this harden off overnight before applying more coats tomorrow, final coating will be french polish.

Yum! That's not come up too badly at all. Are you airbrushing that gold?
