Ever Ready 5318

Here is my latest acquisition courtesy of a forum member,

An Ever Ready 5318, the trader sheet is 450, and several other sets are listed on it.
However, I can find no reference to this set in the usual sources, does anyone have any info.

The valve line up is DK1 DF1 DAC1 and DL2 output.

Housed in a bakelite caninet with MW and LW. I suspect 1939-40 but not much later.

Battery only set 90v HT and 1.5v LT

I think the chassis has been employed in different cabinets, one being mains derived.
Possibly for the aerial/earth and gram sockets.

Very pretty set. Been hunting for one of those for a little while but due to other Marina shaped financial commitments I haven't yet had a chance to get one!

Looking forwards to seeing the rebuild of this one.

Chris, if you really want an Ever Ready battery portable I have an Ever Ready Sky King here I am probably never going to do anything with. Still has the correct battery inside so a new one could be built into it. LT side still reads 1.5v but that's not under load!

The set you have there was released in 1939. It is the same circuit as the 5214. but in a larger and much nicer box.

Should restore very well.

This 'table model' Ever Ready was produced over several years spanning either side of WWII. Initially using side-contacts, like your set, Mark - a receiver I bought when nobbut a school lad and wish to find again some day - and also versions followed using octal-based battery valves and finally B7G all-glass valves. The circuitry varied slightly between models, as did the model name, but the cabinet remained the same.
Very nice indeed. I am truly envious!

Ever Ready sets have always left me cold but this certainly floats my boat. I think it's just further proof of what we've been saying in another thread about the best ones, at least aesthetically, being pre-war.

I looked in Radio Radio, but not as late as '46.
It did not help in my search Radio Radio! does not list the model number.
I am guessing this one is quite desirable then.............Sorry Sir Sydney!!

Obliged Sir Sydney, but one of those sets that comes around rarely, again I am indebted, for knowledge and experience..............and loud bangs in my ear, and shocks, learning the hard was is probably the best in all honesty.
