Adding A Bluetooth Module To A Bush DaC90A

Hi Bob,
I pleased you are having success with the Bluetooth conversion. I makes the DAC90A more useable. It might be possible to do the same with the older DAC90 although the waveband switching is a bit more complicated.
I learnt that the long waveband might continue transmissions until next year.

Hi David as you say the DAC90A is more usable now & enjoyable & not drilled into the chassis with the conversion . I would like to see a DAC90 Bluetooth conversion and if LW continues till next year is a 3 position possible as the switching is complicated kind regards Bob

Or feed a LW or MW "pantry" box with a BT adaptor. One transistor and a ceramic resonator is possible.

Iceland & Algeria on LW at night being picked up here as well as R4 (24 hrs). Though I don't understand what they are saying.

Not much on MW at night and nothing during the day.

My Philips V5A works OK on medium waves, not so good on long waves and totally silent on the short waveband.
Tried another FC4 frequency changer valve, but still no results on SW.
The HT smoothing capacitors will need replacing. Smoothers apart, the only component replaced is the coupling capacitor between the TDD4 audio amplifier and the PENA4 output valve.
Even the HT rectifier looks to be the original Philips 1821.

Thinking of the V5A and its ilk, what possible good reason could Philips have had for creating a set so different from what they were used to building?

There's a one word answer: Philips. They were responsible for all sorts of unusual designs. From the engineering tour-de-force of superinductance, to the fevered dreams of the V5A and the excesses of the G6. Makes you wonder what the culture of the company was like. Were engineers given a loose rein to create? Were there mad managers with strange agendas?

They did also develop the EF50, which helped win WWII*, 25mA filament battery valves and many other great valves. Mullard was Philips from 1928.

Then in IC era the crazy little FM Radio IC with 70 kHz integrated op-amp RC IF filter.

It's sad they've gone back to 1926. Mostly light-bulbs. Philips domestic electronics is now two rented badges. NXT spun off and sold.

Don't forget the first practical domestic VTR, the 1500.

Perhaps the innovation that led to the EF50 etc also led to oddball designs.
