Ekco AC18 HT Unit - using?

Thanks Alan, that's everything I need to restore mine.
It was also a sanitary lesson not to assume something just on the face of what I first see i.e. the assumption the AC18 was more complex than the Power Unit.

I suspect that the major problem may well be the construction of the 'Black Box'. Mine was relatively easy as the Cardboard just pealed off with a bit of warming. Yours looks much more solid.

Also, the Resistors may have bad contacts. There's a lot of guff about it in the UKVRR Link above and the follow-up Thread.

Have you left the 'Extra' Electrolytic Block in Circuit or saved it?

I left it in Alan. It seems to have reformed well so I haven't messed with it.

I was going to suggest that if you removed it you kept it for another Job as it's quite a nice one, and easily re-stuffed.

Hello chaps,

I've found this thread interesting and very informative, particularly as I've been given an AC18 to restore for the Black Country Museum and have been working on it today.

My example has the three capacitors in a soldered tinplate box, which has blown apart along three seams! It must have made a tidy bang at the time, and there are witness marks showing corrosion on the inside of the case. Anyway, I now know that the original values were 6 + 6 + 1 uF.
