I also used this DHL service for transporting a good CRT, the box condition and contents were absolutely perfect on arrival. Perfect for accurate collection time and drop off times which they email you on the day. Thumbs up from me.

Always use UPS for big fragile stuff, Hermes for everything else, all packed well, EG heavy cardboard over knobs and displays and corners, then bubble wrap, then into a sturdy box item wedged so it's can't move, never lost a thing. Items need to packed to survive knocks,couriers haven't the time to muck about on the whole, parcels get thrown no matter what it says about fragility. UPS, TNT + DHL are the three big proffessional couriers, more expensive but worth it. I use Interparcel, better than ParcelMonkey, IP have very good customer service, PM doesn't.

Agree couriers are underpaid, most are tracked and timed but Hermes local courier Tim uses own car. It's a good idea to get on first name good terms with couriers like anyone else, treat em with decency and respect they'll help you out when you need it.

I have always had good service from Hermes, both sending and receiving, but recently, paid for a package to be collected from a residential address. This did not happen so the sender dlivered the parcel to his local parcel shop, it was then, quite quickly, safely delivered to me.
I contacted Hermes to ask for a refund of the fee which I had paid for the collection; more as a matter of principle as it was less than £2.
This is the reply which I received, today, after a reminder to them that I had not received a reply to my initial complaint:

"Thank you for emailing us at Hermes.

I am sorry that you have not received the parcel and for the delay in response.

If you are still disputing the delivery after an outcome received from our support team we deem this as lost. I understand that you are unhappy with our service. I understand that this is not the service that you were expecting.

I request you to please contact the retailer for replacement or refund.

I apologise on behalf of Hermes for the inconvenience this has caused.

I thought that you might be amused by this. I have replied and will continue to use Hermes but wonder what I would do if they had lost a valuable item.

So far so good here but I have to say when I paid for collection once before it wasn't collected. I actually got refunded the 50p very quickly.

I've just sent a package from me in London to Rod in Cornwall by ordinary RM 2nd class. Posted on Weds, arrived today. Much as you'd expect.

Incidentally, RM Special Delivery Guaranteed Next Day by 1pm (the clue is in the name of the service) is now only guaranteed to arrive by 4pm.

I sent 2 packages by RM on Wednesday morning. One to Rod and the other was SD 1pm. I used the online "send an item" service to pay and print mailing labels: https://send.royalmail.com/ No account needed, just pay by card as you go. I could have tried the new parcel collection service but my PO is only 10 minutes walk and I was lucky enough not to need to queue. For some categories, mainly parcels I think, the postage is slightly cheaper if you use "send an item" than if you buy stamps. I suppose it helps Royal Mail to have fully machine readable info on the parcel.
