Yes, GroupDIY is an interesting site, they go to extreme length's to replicate old "classic" rack gear. Ian the bloke I mentioned builds his own valve mixing desk's based on vintage desks by the likes of Redd and Pultec.
If I had shed load's of cash I'd buy one of these - https://electronaut.info/m97/ . As it is I have a BSS 522 compressor/gate and a Fostex something or other comp/gate. Still havn't figured out all of the things the BSS 522 can do, but it does the job.
