Sorry to rub your nose in it, Col, but I've just printed this:-

It must be cold as my printer took ages to warm up.

Just for the record, I'm using my ten-year old HP with XP Home SP3, a 3.06GHz Pentium 4, 1GB RAM and whatever graphics card it was build with.

Hi,

You are certainly not rubbing my nose in it Joe because I asked for your help so very much appreciate it; thank you.

I've spent days playing around trying to save the drawings but every time I try to save as a bit map file it refuses to do so and brings up a message which I'll copy in full which might shed some light on the problem.

I'm delighted though Joe to finally see my humble beginnings at 3D CAD be fully displayed on the forum; I find it most annoying after finally cracking 2D & 3D CAD to be messed around with my computer at the last hurdle it has driven me to despair for a week now; having done all the hard work it refuses on my computer to convert to "bit map" in fact I can't move the image to any file or even print it. I'll add the message I receive in the hope the problem can be resolved.

On a more positive note; the first time I viewed my efforts in 3D like this on EMS was truly amazed and thought I had made a major breakthrough at last.

Well 3D is in Corel Draw anyway and I have used it to extrude text on cards and the like...

Here's a quick extrude of a basic star shape

Hi,

Thanks Gary; it's looking good so hopefully you will soon be producing scaled drawings using Coral Draw 3D; I hope so because the aim of this thread is to encourage members to have a go with CAD if they have tried and failed previously.

I've just tried to open my drawings using Gimp 2 but the format is not recognized (EMS or BAK). It's now time to knock off for dinner but I'll be back shortly and fully charged.

I have been following this thread with interest, are there any specific advantages to using 3D ie: making bits for radios etc or whatever in the home workshop, or is the advantage gained when submitting drawings to an engineering shop for them to produce a component.

To me and for what I do 2D is all I need. Have used 3D on text purely for decorative purposes.

Maybe Colin has some ideas?

I've just spent an age creating a drawing of a Murphy U198 Rado back. The only way I could do it (which isn't at all the same thing as saiyng 'the only way that it could be done'), was by drawing round the back panel asnd all of the slops with a black ball point pen, scanning the result into Photoshop, then spending hours tidying up what looked an unholy mess into something half presentable, using the eraser and brush, thugh it still leaves a lot to be desired. I'm not actually sure how this shape could be faithfully created in EMS, given the various angles and curves. If only the girl in the EMS tutorial video was sat beside me, I'm sure she'd show me how it's done

Really, I should be out in the sun but it's toooooooooo cold.

I'm banned from going into the workshop and getting messed up as visitors are coming after lunch, so that's the rest of Sunday jiggered up. I'll be on the end of my tether trying to be welcoming, friendly, and sorry to see our guests leave, by which time it will be nightfall. I've only just thawed out after my Rufforth trip yesterday.

Not a bad effort David, you should be able to do that also in a drawing program once you have recorded the important dimesnsions.
As to visitors I always maintain that visitors and fish smell after 3 days...
