Right Oh just wondered thats all, some roberts sets have high impedence speakers.

So do some Philips sets! In their quest to be different, they made some valve sets which had no output transformer and a much higher impedance speaker that you can't get now,

To make matters worse, they were in the anode circuit of the O/P valve so when they went open circuit, the pentode had no Anode volts but full HT on the grid. The valve didn't last very long...

Of course, you could modify them....

It sounds fine through the Roberts speaker but through the ten inch Richard Allen one it was setting my teeth on edge.

I rediscovered this post a few days ago.

Since making it I've built the 10" speaker into an amplifier and found that it does not like high frequencies which certainly exonerates the Pye.

I've finally managed to find a speaker for it, not the correct type but it'll do, and have also bought another complete set.

great joe, the pye factory in dundrum ,dublin , made all sorts of irish variants back in the day , i ve never come across aything like your model, most of the fenman11s for export were made in the factory, nothing left of it now , theres an enormous shopping center built on it now, hope the sound on your set is better now , regards mait.
