In 1960s I suppose the simplest solution was to point a camera at a monitor? Though more problematic for 525 <-> 625 because of frame rate rather than 625 -> 405.
I think RTE did that for a while for 625 to 405 for RTE 1. RTE had dual 625 & 405 from the very start in 1962. Areas that already had a lot of 405 sets for BBC & ITV got 405, but the rest got 625. I think Band 1 625 only closed in 1999 in Clare. RTE 405 closed in 1985. After ASO Ireland was UHF only, but there are still Band III TV allocations. Band1 open to Amateur Radio 32 MHz to 69.9 MHz, as well as the 20 & 70 MHz allocations. National DAB closed years ago.

Optical 50hz to 60hz conversion in either direction gives 10hz flicker amongst other problems.  This can be fixed by longer persistence phosphors which cause blurred motion. Colour conversion was almost impossible.

This is why stuff with USA contracts such as the original Avengers switched from 405 video tape to film. Thus only 2 episodes of series 1 survive and all the rest is scanned from film for DVD.

Read somewhere (Practical Television? Wireless world?) that pointing a 405 camara at a 625 or 819 TV screen worked better than it had any right to. Didn't mention 525 though...

I was trying to share a music video I'm in (I was one of the dancers in the background) off you tube onto my facebook page, but my stupid phone wouldn't do it. I pointed my phone camara at my laptop screen while playing the video & it worked great & shared that on FB. Of course my mates had a good laugh at my clodhopper dancing. Thanks for the idea...
