I have sent this away for repair. I've had some feedback and its been indicated that it appears that the push switch had a previous issue but it seems that I've made it worse - my fault.

Good call, as it's worth a few bob. If your doing the repair as a favour and there's a chance of the repair turning into a nightmare perhaps you've done the right thing.

Just to let you know that I've received this and the switch has been repaired as best as it could be under the circumstances. It will lock but not putting huge pressure on it.
I'm not going to touch this type of work in the future at all.
