Of more immediate concern to me, I hope my wife and I can fly to Marseille next week - it's a long drive via the channel shuttle, and I can't face that! But at least it's with Ryanair, and Michael O'leary has just flown a plane through the Icelandic cloud to show what a load of balony it all is, much to the condemnation of the Transport Minister. (To be more asccurate, one of his pilots flew the plane, while O'Leary flew a desk in Head Office:-)

When you see how windy and exposed Colin's house is, and look at the quality of his outdoor paintwork, you can see what a perfectionist he is. Not a brush mark or spec of dust to be seen - all you can see is the reflection of your face in the shine!

Sorry Davvid you are wrong here, an airline like
Ryan air cannot be matched against giants who make millions of dollars/pounds flying passengers, my wife has been troubled before, these large concerns do not stop flights on a whim, unless there is real danger, the link below explains, european flights towards Spain are less troubled, if a plane has to fly 3000 miles or so near iceland there is real danger

When I did some work at helegon hadrons we used yogurt and cow dung to age the new brickwork . A good job of the chimney you have made its always good to have a go at jobs yourself to save money and to boost your knowledge of new tasks I myself try to not get any tradesmen in as you see so many bad stories of bodge and go merchants after a quick buck my moto is what a man has made another man or women can replicate .

Well said regarding modern tradespeople; it beats me how a guy can do a job with cigarette in one hand mobile phone in the other hand; women excluded of course because they can apply makeup; eye shadow; lipstick; adjust their hair; eat a sandwich and send a text all whilst sitting in their car at red traffic lights; men are truly inferior at multi-tasking in fact I know one or two guys who would struggle with tying their shoe laces.

When Bron and I first married and got our big millstone around our necks in the form of a huge mortgage we had no money to pay to have jobs done so between us we have learned over the years and although we can afford to get jobs done now it goes against our religion. Every year I think I've cracked all the big jobs around our bungalow and every year another big job crops up; this has been ongoing over the last 25 years whilst we have lived here.

Living on the valley side and having a big rear garden we have suffered some water ingress under the bungalow; this week I've removed five buckets of water which isn't excessive given the amount of rainfall but next year this is now a job I'll sort out once and for all. I've already suffered drain problems which I've fixed usually in sub zero temperatures; this time I'll do this big job in comfort and wait for the two days we jokingly call our summer next year. No doubt once I dig down to install the new flood defenses there will be the usual cloudburst to fill the trench with muddy water. What is strange about this job though is that access is easy unlike ripping up floors to get at pipes. I need to take up part of the patio. There is even lots of videos covering such work on You Tube so I can plan ahead. Most people I know would be alarmed with water ingress but this is just another job to me and will only cost for materials; rather than become upset I'll treat the job as another challenge. Life is good.

I have a list of jobs in my household which seems to get bigger by the day .when I think I have berried completion along comes another few.I have just bought an arc welder to make a few jigs with but I have not had a chance to use it as our outside security light failed and have had to wire a new one in.I am in the process of making up a distribution panel to put my collection of old plugs switches and sockets on but I am still waiting to find a white dolly switch to make the board complete. And then there is the decking to extend. Your job sounds a big task I don't envy you there was a program on gardener a world were a chap had to keep laying irrigation to drain his garden every year as new springs kept appearing.well I have a day off tommorow to pop in to west Dulwich to see Gerry wells I have him to blame for my obsession with all things machanical and electrical.
