I removed today the decoupling capacitor and that blue power capacitor. This was new terrain as I have very little experience soldering on a PCB. As I said before, the main difficulty has been matching one side of the board against the other when removing a component. I also needed some way to clear the PCB holes for fitting replacements.
One mistake I did make was I used a bit too much heat on removing the large blue power capacitor so a localised bit of tracking had delaminated. Only a tiny bit still it's not convenient. Then I find a lot of people when that happens they run some wire along the damaged track to electrically connect the pathway. However, it would be nice if I could find a way to paint over some track paint if such an item is sold at Maplins?
I'm not very optimistic of my chances but I'll get some new caps tomorrow and should have them in soon. Might replace the transistor as well.
