As a matter if interest the OP of this subject on the aditnow forum has had his thread terminated and he has requested that he wants his membership revoked, his own fault really as loads of wild claims but no sources/refs etc.

I suppose his prediction of EMP calamity at the end of this year is also purely coincidental time-wise to the 21 December 2012 Mayan Prophecy, so not even an original prediction of supposed impending cataclysm.

Mention of nuclear missiles is evocative of the cold war era and the UK government's farcical 'Protect and Survive' series of public information films.

I had exactly the same thought yesterday David, after first replying to this thread. Like your oldest son, I was also about 11 at the time and remember the leaflet and short films on TV.

I particularly like the official advice given to those that couldn't dig a shelter outside, should instead remove an internal door and fix to the wall and floor at a 45 degree angle and crawl inside with food, water and a radio and wait for the 'all-clear'.

And there's the American's wasting all that money putting NORAD inside Cheyenne mountain to survive a nuclear blast!

Hello Robert, yes probably so, if stuff like that is not backed up by some kind of evidence or clear reference than I usually take a dim view, he/she has also subscribed to another underground mining exploration forum, it would seem he/she is having the same ride their.

Protect and survive, yes, sloping living room door against the wall....feel the oil based paint dripping down yer neck just before yer head explodes or whatever. Frightening stuff nevertheless.

There was a long list of things to do finishing with, I think:-
Put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye!

The American government advice to citizens at the time was called 'Duck and Cover' - our equivalent being 'Protect and Survive'.

This gives an interesting insight into the mindset at the time. When the Russians developed nuclear weapons in 1949 the US lost it's monoply on WMD, which really spooked them:
