Hello Alan, I went to the bash at lupin farm this year, I could recommend it to anyone on this forum for an enjoyable day out,
and both Phil and Andy always put on a good display of vintage kit.

Well I have finally made a start after two months.

this set is full of paper & wax caps, and the few around the waveband switch took quite a bit of dismantling to get to,
this took most of the afternoon and evening to Remedy.
Someone else has also been in before me, and changed the electrolytics, they have fitted an 8uf + 8uf can, and joined the terminals
together to substitute for the 15uf, and removed the earth tag for some reason, and something similar has been done to the other can,
so this will be my first point of attack this afternoon, hopefully by the end of the day, it will at least be making some noises at me.

That should keep you out of trouble for a bit.
One might guess that the removed Earth tag on the Electrolytic was to keep it away from the mains switch, but rotating it 180 deg. would have had the same effect. Odd.

The more I dig, the more bodgery shows up, these are the problems as far as I can tell.

C1 is missing, R4 & R4a go to different points, and not only that, they have each had a capacitor added to them,
why has the 50uf electrolytic been fitted, EC1 and EC2 are on opposite sides, and they are both 8uf + 8uf cans, EC2 should be a 25+4+16,
and an extra component has been added from pin 5 of the output valve to chassis, It also has an electrolytic added to the speaker, connected between the speaker frame, and the white wire which comes down to pin 4 on the output valve.

Any suggestions as to what the best route to take, the output valve and rectifier have not been substituted, they are original.

OK, I am going to attempt to return this set to it's original state, the first problem I have come across
is the second smoothing can, it has three values 25 + 4 + 16, but the values are not marked on the trader sheet or the
philco bulletin, on the philco bulletin no 48 they are coded red, green and black, and on the service engineer sheet , they are
marked C11, C25, and C28.

Could anyone tell me which value relates to which colour code or C marking please?
