Yes its the waveband. I have LED striplights, a computer, DVR and wifi all in close vicinity and it swamps any sensitive superhet.

I have just installed a FM converter by DAVID WINTER INTO A 1936 VINTAGE RADIO works great . The converter uses some of the radio tuning gang circuits
