What To Do With Vintage Radios Since LW & MW Are Now Finished

Has anyone experimented with a leaky feeder loop (think rubbish quality co-ax!) run around the outside of the property. Decent signal inside the loop, very little outside.

They can and do work Jeffrey.
The other thing is one or more stacked ferrite rods. Wind a tunable medium wave coil and five turns as a coupling coil, feed the coupling coil from the pantry TX and tune the main winding with a 500pf variable cap for max volume on the radios, can and does work reasonably well.

I too morn the loss of AM transmissions but I am not even considering dumping my woodies and early transistor sets.
I will use pantry transmitters, a bit of Bluetooth, some FM adaptors, whatever it takes.
We radio preservers are in no different a position than 405 line TV guys and there are plenty of those still rebuilding TVs.
All that has changed or is changing is the loss of the signal in the form that our radios were made for. We simply need to adapt how we deliver the AM signal to the radios.
With the falling prices of decent AM radios it could be the new golden dawn for us fanatical radio fixers, not a death knell at all.

Just checked the sold prices for a DAC90A, they vary from £18 to £79. The average is approximately £30.

After years of planning I have moved into a purpose built workshop/display space just in time for the demise of MW stations which is disappointing but this hasn't discouraged me from collecting and restoring.
I have a Hurricane and a Spitfire, one has an Echo dot connected and the other a DAB radio, it took some trial and error with earths and frequency choice but I'm really pleased with the audio quality. I will always have 2 stations with my choice of content and it means they will work as designed with no modifications and not just be ornaments.

Did have a spitfire and also the other one (5 watts) which was faulty and way off frequency, got a refund as they all are apparently.
