The perils of hoarding

I live in north queensland. We dont have bathtubs here!!.
Sit in yer own s**t for an hour YUKKK!!!.
I have a shower, thats big enough for a Roman orgy,
and a hot water system big enough to clean your teeth.
Yes, under the bathroom stairs ( four treads ) I keep my spare bee keeping stuff.
Foundation wax, spare frames, queen excluders, etc etc.
( I am an apiarist , world will die without bees ).

SOO its middle of winter ( nearly ) its about 28C today, although for us it was cold this morn.
I am still wearing dungaree trousers of mine standard, a thick flannette shirt, work socks, and thongs ( flip flops to you )
About 19 C. !!!, BUT we forge on. I moved 1500 miles north ( statute miles ) to get away from frost.
My brother rang a couple of days ago, it was minus 10 C.
YOU can keep that!!!. THEN I watch youtube videos of english car and motorcylce enthusiasts complaning about the condensation in their sheds/garages.
Mneh ??? when are you blokes happy ??.

I dont think i hoard i just have several generations of effects that i can not part with and collect as i dont throw anything away incase it may be useful in the future .

I'm not sure if I'm hoarding or not, but I do have a lot of stuff and I'm now trying to move some of it along.

I've been given stuff before and took it in as it looked interesting, other stuff I bought because it looked interesting, but never ever did do anything with it. I should start listing some stuff to let go and keep a small amount of things which I actually do something with.

Useful to who though, you or someone else?
The issue is when you get older, some hoard for hoards sake and have no idea what they have, what it's uses are or any idea of why they want it.
I'll give you an example. I needed a lens for a PYE Lynx TV camera, a collector friend had about 30 of them and when I asked if I could buy one off him he said I not parting with any as I "might" need them. His wife cracked up and said you just keep getting all this stuff, non of it works and you'll just keep adding till we can't move in the house, just give him a lens, reluctantly I got one.
Hoarding is an illness IMHO.

In a major leap forward for hoarders everywhere I managed to get rid of two years of Electronics World from the garage.

It was a devil of a job finding them.

Not the good stuff but the first two years after the change of editor in 2005 when the magazine turned into something completely unlike Wireless World as we knew it and completely devoid of any interest.

Numerous RadComs went the same way, though the interesting bits (Tech Topics etc.) were extracted before the remainder met the recycling.

I don't recognise (within reason) the concept of hoarding! It's collecting! Saving wonderful things from being junked is to be applauded and without people having done so in the past there would be no vintage equipment for the likes of us to collect.

Amongst other (lots of!) things I have kept all the brochures and spec sheets I picked up when visiting hi fi shows starting from around 1978, majoring around 1980-84 and from a few sporadic shows over the years since then. To some it's utter junk but to others it's a rare and detailed record of the hi fi industry and it's products from that time and in glossy colour brochure form.

I've kept decades of WW and try to read through the whole lot every year. Articles that were of little or no interest a few years back and were skipped last time can become most salient depending on the sort of thing you are working on at the time.

Interesting comment, a late friend of mine had a large collection of extremely rare 78 rpm records, low pressings one off acetates a motorcycle with reg number 78RPM and many other historical items, he passed at 82 years old and had mortgaged the house so there was a lot of debt
Everything with the exception of the patent of the magnetic pickup invented by Dent & Johnson Linwood sold to the gramophone company which I have was binned. So even collecting for history doesn't work. Look at all the work Jeffrey and others are doing for the late Lucian Nunes collection, a massive task.

I guess it depends on who is tasked with the clearance of the estates of enthusiasts and the views they hold as to what is junk and what is of historical importance.  A very good friend of mine was killed suddenly by the Astrozenaca vaccine during covid.
He had a large collection of vintage gear including radios, TV's, pre war TV's, pre war and early 50's radiograms, hi fi gear and test gear. I recall a time when from his front door to his back door several rooms away you had to walk sideways through a tight "corridor" between all this gear!  I do wonder what happened to it all.... I started a number of threads on UKVRRRR about it at the time as although he never used the internet he had several friends in VR around the North East who needed to be informed. I know he made a will and specifically to make sure that relatives he hated inherited nothing on his passing. he had no other relatives and it seems these hated one's made sure the will was "disappeared" and got everything he owned. They would certainly have had no interest in VR thats for sure!

If you’ve got a lot of junk and relatives you hate then it would seem an obvious decision as to whom to leave said junk to.
