Same for me, 'scopes are tools and I get on well with the relatively cheap digital ones., even the USB jobs, I have one of those with 5kV isolation, sure beats snipping the earth wire. For day to day stuff I use my Fnirsi 1013D, says it 100MHz 20 more like but very good value for money and (rechargeable) battery powered. An awful lot of bang for buck, the only thing it doesn't do is resistance.

Went upstairs and found the Philips 'scope. It's in a shabby state. Did plug into the mains, no results, not even the power on LED.

I have a stack ( 4 off ) PM3055 Philips/Fluke abominations. All four have faulty power supplies.
I think the power supply is more complicated than the scope itself ( almost ).
They worked when I bought them, all for about a week ( Ex RAAF training school CRO's ).
They were PSU noisy in that they all have switchmode hash on the trace regardless of what sensitivity the unit was set to.
I am NOT a fan of them at all. The best thing about them was I paid $40 each. Now I need a boat!! cause I have the anchors.

Hi David,

I looked up my notes and three of these scope have passed my workbench. The main problems were just dirty switches and controls and a short-circuited 47nF (over the mains input) and a defective mains fuse.

The plastic had become quite brittle over the years and easily snaps. You can exchange top and bottom case halfs if I remember correctly.

My repairs on these were 10 to 25 years ago, so some additional problems like bad electrolytics may also be present.

It's an economy type 'scope, but not bad.
