And a few more classics, including a couple of newer ones that have become 'classics'.

Another note, the Hendrix LP is a modern remaster by Sony BMG and it's a fantastically good sounding LP. A credit to the engineers and a great example of how good remastering can be.

Quick edit: The copy of Pink Floyd's DSOTM is the 2003 remaster and is one of the best sounding LPs I have. Miles better than my original copy and some say it's better than the Mobile Fidelity pressings.

The bass on Lost! on Viva La Vida is great, makes the whole house shake! Also got their Parachutes album and A Rush Of Blood To The Head although that's a bit warped.

Before you get any vinyl like that though you need to get a decent Hi-Fi record deck and amplifier. I used to have a 1970s music centre with a cheap cartridge that ruined a lot of vinyl. To listen to vinyl and keep it in superb condition and to hear it at it's best it costs a ridiculous amount. A CD will sound similar on a cheap player as it will on an expensive one, a cheap turntable will sound terrible however.
The sum parts of my turntable come to over £300, it's the most expensive thing I own next to the record collection and the amplifier! You can spend well over £20,000 on a turntable...

So long as you get the tracking weight and cartridge alignment correct there shouldn't be too many problems. That's what annoys me about people who buy old Dansettes and then ruin modern records on them. Modern records are designed to be played with tonearms with a tracking weight of about 1.5g, old Dansettes etc can sometimes track up to 10g!

I'll have a look at my other boxes of 45s and see what I can drag out from the 70s and (oh no!) the 80s....

Trouble is I have to find them first as I still have 15 unopened large boxes of records...and no where to properly store them.

I used to rip all my MP3s with Apple Lossless but found my hard drive rapidly filling up! (only 250GB, may invest in a 1TB one sometime) So I went back to encoding at normal MP3 quality which is adequate as I only listen to MP3 files when doing coursework (so not concentrating on the music) or in the carpentry workshop where you can't hear a thing above the circular saw :D

The only picture disc I have is a cardboard one cut out of "The Talking Story Book". Needless to say the sound quality is rubbish!
