I'm sure spiders shelter from the wind in PIRs.

Actually we have two 'sheds' for the spiders to shelter in - basically a flat roof over the 1m gap between the house and adjacent garage with a central wall across and doors at front and back.
They are both very popular with the spiders, whether the wind blows or not! As for the PIR, I would expect it to be completely sealed but I will be checking it later.

While this refers to burglar alarm PIRs, the type of detector is similar in a sensor lamp.
https://www.actmeters.com/advice/five-ca...se-alarms/ More notes here: https://forums.parallax.com/discussion/1...triggering Obviously a common problem. It's all too easy for something to give a change in infrared reaching the sensor. Be it air currents, foliage etc.

I gave the PIR a good inspection yesterday and there is no way the tiniest of spiders can get in so I think we will have to conclude that movement in the bushes at the periphery of the detection area is to blame.
I did consider reducing the sensitivity slightly but the controls are awkward to get to, so I'll leave well alone. The light was deliberately aimed so as not to cause interference to any of the neighbours so there is no problem there and a 10W LED isn't going to break the bank if it's on for slightly longer, taking the year overall! |
