Alistair, thanks for that link. I've just added Ublock to my Firefox browser, so, hopefully I'll get no more annoying pop-up ads.!

I tend to use private browsing which deletes them, and history, on exit. I have a feeling the request has more to do with EU requirements than anything else.

So what's in it for Ublock? Its free so how do they make any money? If free or doesn't have supporting adverts its always suspect I think!

Ublock is just one of many free and open source bits of software. In this case free in both senses, freedom and beer. Most Linux distributions are also open source and free in both senses.
Software can be free, in the freedom sense, but still cost money to buy. If somebody is offering something worth buying, such as support, then others may be willing to pay for it. The enterprise versions of Red Hat Linux are in this category. Or software can be free, in the beer sense, but not in the freedom sense. Irfanview and some Acrobat readers are in this class.

Ublock is working fine, but every time I open my Yahoo.co.uk account. a'popup' window 'Hey, M.G. we noticed that you haven't turned off your Adblocker' appears, which i find annoying!! I also wonder why, on almost every site, a 'TLS Handshake' has to be performed every time you switch pages within the same site.

There are plenty of sites that remind you that you've got an adblocker. On balance it's less annoying than the ads. A few sites stop you using them at all if you've got an adblocker. There's an arms race between advertisers and blockers.
