Headlamp bulb change

What about the breathalysers? 

As far as the spare glasses are concerned, I wear varifocals all the time although I don't need glasses for distance vision since I had my cataracts removed. However, I do need them for reading and using the computer and, as I'd been wearing glasses since I was 14, it was a better option that having pairs of glasses for specific functions that were never where they were supposed to be when I wanted them, so now I effectively wear three pairs of glasses and always know where to find them - on my nose!

If I could demonstrate my excellent distance vision without glasses, would that be acceptable?

Presumably this also extends to contact lenses?

Hi don't know about France but in Spain they have abolished the rule carrying the bulbs law as it was Renault was the first car to be a pain in the e to change bulbs on the roadside & some cars have hid head lamp bulbs & they were over £100 each when they first appeared was the 1991 BMW 7 50i . Halfords stopped doing the free bulb fitting as the Renault Megane scenic 2 was a nice job to replace the front side lamp bulbs as well

I've had to change the nearside headlamp bulb on a Ford KA twice. Takes about 10 minutes to change the bulb but about 40 minutes to replace the cover on the back of the headlamp. That's the easy one as there is about 2-3inches between the headlamp and the battery, which could be removed if necessary. Replacing the offside bulb is almost impossible as there is very little room behind the headlamp.

The headlamp bulbs on the Skoda Yeti are relatively easy to replace but the front indicator bulbs are a different matter almost needing a strip down of the front of the car.

I'm sure cars these days are designed for ease of assembly and if it's easy to replace parts that's just a lucky coincidence.

Hi Keith you are right cars are designed & built for ease of assembly without going off topic one of the hardest jobs on cars today is clutches timing belts & ( brake pipes my favourite job ) . One of the easiest head lamp bulbs to change is a 2009 Ford Focus you have to only remove 1 Torx screw from the top & the full lamp slides out like a drawer unclip the multi plug & you can change the 2 h7 dip & main beam bulbs & the capless side lamp & indicator lamp bulbs

I am told that LED running lights do fail, often, and that on many new cars it is a complete headlamp unit change.
Hate to think of the cost of some of the current assemblies, just for a few crystal shiners. Are these LED lamps excluded from the warranty, bulbs were?

There is a requirement in law to carry a breathalyzer in the car. If, however, you don't have one you cannot be fined!
How's that for a crazy law?
I don't bother carrying one, hardly see gendarmes around these parts anyway - provincial France.
They closed down the Gendarmerie in the village a while back - presumably not neede.

I'm replacing the 75 next month, a Kia Picanto is top of the list then the Dacia Sandero & Hyundai I10 next. So I wonder what of the trio will be easiest for jobs like this??

Engineer in the local Nissan dealer told a neighbour that had the Leaf that he now leases been his own the LED headlamp that had failed would have cost him ITRO £400 for replacement, even ones that soldier on for a few years gradually lose brightness apparently, perhaps the technology is being pushed too far, just like LED backlit TV's seem to be now?

The Dacia is a Renault Romanian made - I guess similar set up to Skoda & VW

Having been told today by the mechanic that changed my headlight bulb for (8€) that our Renault Scenic - il est tres difficile pour change le ampoule!
Check how much servicing you can do on your choice of car.

Glad I have halogen bulbs not LEDs!

A friend of mine married a Romanian girl and moved there in 2006 (to a village in the foothills of the Transylvanian Alps), his car has been a petrol sandero bought new in 2010, when I asked his opinions he said, It's basic, (his domestic model didn't even have a radio),  and it doesn't do much, but it does it well, and has kept doing it! As he has a 90 km round trip to work every day, I think that is a reasonable endorsement.
