The FM was OK.
The AM was only any use for very strong stations. Weaker stations gave a whistle.
Perhaps the idea is sound (a decent DSP radio with only aerials is possible) but the implentation silicon or DSP values are poor.

All three Tesco own brand Superhets worked better (the Sports FM/MW radio, the World Radio and the earlier version of the Kitchen radio). It seems it can be tuned with a pot OR up/down buttons.

Except single coil and telescopic rod for VHF rather than a loop.

But the schematic you've shown does only have a single coil ferrite rod for AM and (presumably) a telescopic rod for SW/FM.

The transformer coupled loop is an option for AM only.

I agree the markings on the schematic aren't that clear but you can make them out without too much difficulty.

Thanks Terry, I think I need to take apart my CRT and adjust the focus. Now that you have explained it, it is obvious. So I think the Tesco Kitchen radio is thus exactly that. I noticed the LW / MW / VHF-FM switch only switched resistors, the pot on the tuning drive (with smaller drum than polycon earlier version). On the outside it looks like the earlier model which I put into a larger case with an 8" speaker!

i've found a larger version which might help but, of course, it still has the same cramped spidery characters which tend to turn 'AM' into a blob!
