My eldest Lad, who was limbering up to be a Geologist, wanted a Land Rover when he was 17, so we got him a 2A.
For initial practice, trundling round the Field, Low Ratio was wonderful
It would actually do over 70, but only down bank with the wind behind, and you had to be brave.

The ratio of the transfer box in low ratio in the Landrover is spot on for off road stuff, especially in 1st gear used for crawling on tick over revs, the Defender I have automatically ups the tick over revs from 800 rpm to 1,000 rpm when 1st gear low ratio is selected, a really good feature, no silly pedal to the metal stuff required, the 1,000 rpm is automatically kept constant even when towing my loaded trailer up hill in the woods.

It was blurred vision at 50 mph plus in the old Lightweight...

Never any danger of speeding tickets when I had our series 1  1600cc! 1950 with free wheel gearbox, very rare.
Usually has a car hanging on the back too. Terrible wheel wobble at 50 mph, especially downhill, frightening.
Done at a rough guess 370,000 miles.
Started first time every time, often on 3 pots though.
But I sold it!

First of all there should be railings to prevent pedestrians from stepping off the curb...

I'd approve of that.
Though not to stop pedestrians stepping on the pavement, but to stop motorists parking their cars ON the pavement.
