A request from a non member

Good point Joe. Looking through the list, (more than 550 registered), there are scores who have registered but never posted and haven't visited. We know that some don't post but do 'lurk' which is fine - I do it myself on several electronics, woodworking and model engineering forums and often get messages saying 'long time no see' so I visit to make sure they know I'm still in the land of the living.

We also know that there were those who - back in mid 2011 when the forum was destabilised took their loyalties elsewhere and have never been back, nor are the likely to. They may not even have re-registered or may have forgotten their password so perhaps couldn't get into the forum as a 'member' anyway.

And as you say, it's so easy to join that anyone who was deleted but wished to return could do so in minutes.

When you say 'you'd like to do this' it sounds like you're volunteering!

Maybe it's something Mark and the Admin Team could take you up on if they concur that some 'spring cleaning' is overdue?

I agree, the forum is long due a bit of a tidy up, lots of members that registered and never returned, and quite a few that have not been active for quite some time, also quite a few threads that are no longer relevant, (ie maintenance and old sales postings)

Most of the members will still know we are active, as many will have received the Emails as to regarding the change of the address from .org to .co.uk and also about the change of server.

A part of the forum open to non members would in my opinion not be a good idea, it would just be an open door for spammers, abuse, and trolls to post anything they feel fit, not to mention links to porn sites, advertising and the likes of, it was tried on a pirate radio forum that I was a moderator of, and the amount of work involved increased about tenfold, it can also flag up in a google search that our site could be unsafe if any links to a site that has mall-ware on it is linked to us.

I will open a thread in the staff forum so it can be discussed between the moderator and admin team.

Thanks Paul; it was just an idea; it would be interesting to learn just how many members are actually active on the forum. Perhaps a spring clean of the forum would be of use as suggested by Joe and you before it becomes a really big job? Although my idea was of no use it might activate a spring clean so was worth posting.

Hi my name is richie. new member name richard296 i would like to thank mark posting this item for me. I would also like to thank all who have shown an interest with replies.
Bear in mind i was refused entry to the site. I have taken pics of the board enclosed. Resistor not in just the burn mark in pic. Its a power supply for galanti duovox accordion. No info on net other than gem musical instruments which is also printed on the boards. also bell musical instuments are also linked. thank you in advance for any info richie

The burning looks to me like it has been caused by a short circuit in the instrument that has overloaded it.
There will be another fault to fix before the resistor can be replaced otherwise it will just burn again.
Where is the power supply mounted?
Is it in the instrument or in a separate box?
A photo of the inside of the instrument will be needed if it is not just a badly wired plug that has caused the problem.

more pics from member richard296 as requested. power supply circuit is inside alloy box alloy box is where it sits. A large hole in cabinet base under alloy box is then covered with a steel plate protecting the underside.. It has a very small vent at each end of plate about 6mm x 130mm. pic 1 shows the whole unit. other 2 show the amp section. thank you in advance for info. richie
